There are under 900 Negidals, an Evenki people, whose traditional territory is on the banks of the Amgun River, a tributary of the Amur in the Khabarovskiy Kray. Predominantly a hunting and fishing people, though the Negidal of the upper Amgun developed small-scale reindeer herding in the taiga manner.
During Soviet times, Negidal culture underwent major transformation and now most Negidals live in Russian settlements with little if any connection to reindeer husbandry.
